Many high-end cars have a silicate bag inside the expansion tank，designed to protect metal parts (especially aluminum alloy parts) in the engine, weaken acid corrosion and prolong their service life.

Silicate is an effective corrosion inhibitor for aluminum, and also has a certain anti-corrosion effect on steel and iron.Commonly used metals in cooling systems are iron, aluminum, solder, etc.Under the lightweight trend of autos, inside the engine system, the proportion of aluminum alloy materials is getting higher and higher. Therefore, the protection requirements for the aluminum alloy material in the cooling system are increasing. This has led to the creation of many complex (containing silicates and other substances) coolant formulations, and many high-end vehicle retain a corresponding silicate bag in expansion tank.
